The Latest News

So - here's the latest and greatest.

1.  Violet just had her vet appointment - glucose number was amazing at 77!  Woot!!

2.  Crate training for the puppies continues to go well.  We have progressed to them going in when asked and me not having to give them any physical queues.  We also did a first today - into crates during the day so they were in their beds while I ran to the vet.  They likely would have been fine as I was only gone for an hour and a half but it was good practice.  They went in with no issues, didn't complain and were all sound asleep when I got home.  It's going very well!!

3.  I am officially ready to declare critter land CLEAN!!  Spring cleaning project finally wrapped up yesterday.  Don't get me wrong - there is always more that could be done - spots on the floors and baseboards I could go after with the scrub brush, outside windows that could be washed, etc.  But - for the most part the rooms are tidy and hygienic and I am pleased with the routine I have been keeping for the last week or so.  Critter laundry has also been done - that gets mixed reviews from the critters - some like it - some prefer their own stank.....

4.  Pups and piggy are outside - trying to keep them out as much as possible between rain showers.  It' is so hard to keep them entertained when they are stuck indoors.

That's about it for now - all is great here....  Happy Thursday!

Catit Senses 2.0 Drinking Flower Fountain

I have water stations down in critter land - two of them.  One is a large continuous water bowl - the kind with the large bottle on top.  The other is the same version of that - just a bit smaller.  They work well but I feel like they get grubby so quickly and the quality of water isn't fabulous.  In the past we have had fountains - ones that have the continuous movement of water and filtration.  The problem we had was that they only hold a small amount of water  - with lots of critters - it was a constant refilling effort.

I found this little gem on Amazon.  It's called the Catit Senses Drinking Flower Fountain:

It holds a pretty good amount of water.  The pump inside is very quiet.  The water doesn't sit in the green ring it comes out of the flower and then goes back into the bucket to be filtered again.

The ferrets - LOVE - it.  They have all visited it multiple times today.  The kitties like it as well - but they are not nearly as animated as the ferrets.  I also ordered a frog fountain for their other bathroom - it should come this weekend and we will see if they like it.  I think the ferrets will really enjoy it because it splashes.  We shall see.

I will try to get some pics this weekend....

Critter Land Updates

The first update I am quite happy to share is that the air conditioning that quit working last week is back to operational so critter land is not quite so warm today.

The bigger update is that we are getting rid of the carpet in their area - thank goodness.  Having 10 little critters in that space doing untoward things on the carpet is a cleanup nightmare.  No more carpet shampooing for me (that's not totally true - Emma and Winston make their share of messes on the living room and bedroom carpet - but....the little guys are way worse.

We had wanted to put in tile but unfortunately the subfloor we have will not support the weight so we went with a laminate instead.  So - hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will have a lovely new floor that is much easier to maintain!  Will share pictures when done...
