Emma - 2003 - 2019 Rest in Peace Sweet Girl

Now that the holidays have passed and we've had a few days to let this sink in, I am very sad to share that on December 23rd we made the terribly difficult decision to help our Divine Miss Em cross the rainbow bridge. Emma would have been seventeen on her next birthday in March. She was fortunate to have good health for the bulk of her life. It was only in the last year or so that she experienced a slow decline in her mobility due to muscle atrophy in her hind legs.

She was a bright and fun loving dog who had quite the life, sharing her days with many different species and openly loving them all. She was well traveled, visiting 14 states and spending lots of time at her favorite place - the beach.

Emma came to us when she was sixteen weeks old and we have enjoyed every moment of our time with her. Our hearts are broken and our household feels incomplete but we know that she is no longer shackled by the body that failed her. Our lives were made so much better because of her companionship and loyalty and she will be fondly remembered every day.

We miss you, my sweet girl, and love you more than you could ever know.

It's gotten crazy - the amount of money you can spend on Halloween costumes for your pets. Emma used to be a great sport about wearing whatever we got for her. Now that she is an elderly lady - she is not so excited about the prospect. The puppies - well - they are wild children who have be photographed one at a time or else they eat each others costumes. And then there is the piglet - who is fairly cooperative but not a huge fan. Then there are the kitties and the ferrets - I gave that one up several years ago. So, this year we went simple, and cheap. Happy Halloween from the gang:

Happy 2nd Birthday to the Puppies

I haven't blogged in ages but I can't think of a better reason to do a post than to wish those three crazy puppies a happy birthday!  I can't believe they are two years old. Here is what they looked like as babies:

I had to chuckle - in addition to their cupcakes the whole gang got a pumpkin spice dog treat. I think that September 21 is the one day that Winston is happy to have canine siblings:

So - it's a good thing I took a few photos for posterity's sake - because about 5 minutes later Tango, Charli, and Juliett were sans coats.  Only Charli's survived - Tango and Juliett's were both in several pieces in the yard.  Emma was good and came inside and waited for me to take hers off.  Crazy puppies.  I guess they will be cold from now on - little turds...  :)

Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween from the zoo gang.  Today Winston is celebrating Halloween as 'SuperPig' and the dogs are dressing up as Minions.  It's the puppies first Halloween and they were not all that thrilled with the whole dress-up experience.  It's Emma's 14th Halloween and she wasn't really feeling it - and as the queen bee around here, we mostly let her get her way.  The littles - I gave up dressing them up years ago - the cats are way too indignant and the ferrets flop down like they are unable to move when you put something on them - so no dress-up for critterland.

Happy First Birthday Puppies!!

Can you believe that Tango, Charli and Juliett are one year old today??  Holy Moly!!  We got them when they were about 10 weeks old - their gotcha day will come up in December.

Today we have done a few special things.  Each puppy (and Emma and Winston) got a birthday cupcake.  Tango got to wear his birthday bandana and the girls had their birthday shirts - Charli did way better with the shirt than Juliett.  They each got two new toys as well

Tonight they will get a special dinner and special treats when they go to bed.  As I type this they are outside playing - chasing each other around the backyard. They seem like happy and healthy little pups (little  - haha) and they are all three progressing with their training.  Leash training is next on the docket - wish us luck.
