Critter Culinary Corner - Uncle Ben's Mutt Balls

I found this great blog while cruising the information highway the other day.... doggiedessertchef.com.  On the blog I found a recipe for Mutt Balls that I decided to try.  These Mutt Balls will have to be renamed to something else clever for my household as they will most likely be consumed by all the critters except the ferrets.

Here's the recipe:

Ingredients
1 (8.8 ounce package) Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice Natural Whole Grain
3 slices Bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled
1 pound ground Turkey
1 cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
2 Eggs
1 teaspoon dried Parsley

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with foil.
2. Prepare rice according to package directions and allow to cool.

3. Once cooled mix Brown Rice, ground turkey, dried parsley, cheddar cheese, bacon and eggs using your hands in large bowl until well combined.

4. Shape into meatballs between 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter.

5. Place on foil lined baking sheet, and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until no longer pink in center and an inserted thermometer reads 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

6. Cool and serve. Makes 2 to 3 dozen meatballs.

I made 12 for the first round and froze the rest:

One out of one hedgehog gives this recipe two paws up!

3 out of 4 kitties gave this recipe 2 paws up - Phoebe didn't like it -

One out of one dog gave this recipe 2 paws up:

And - zero out of two ferrets gave this recipe 2 paws up - didn't even catch them with the camera - they sniffed and moved on - completely uninterested.

All in all - it was a success and its pretty easy to make - so - I would put this on the make again list for the critters.

As a side note - please make these and feed them to your critters at your own risk - some animals have sensitivities  to foods that are not a regular part of their diet.  As with any treat - these should be fed in moderation.
